How are the pump pouches worn?
Our pump pouches are designed to be worn on a belt. They all have a belt loop on the
back which is part of the flap closure. We do not attach the belt to the pouch as this
allows you to use your own belt or purchase one of ours. And this way the pumper can
shift the pouch on the belt so that it is in the most comfortable position relative to the
belt closure. You can also mix and match pouch and belt fabrics and choose from several
different belt styles.
How are they made?
All of our insulin pump cases are handmade. We size them to fit each pump so that the
fit is snug and secure. Every pouch is fully lined with a color-coordinated solid or print
fabric. In some case, the lining fabric will match the outer fabric. Both the outer fabric
and lining fabric have a layer of interfacing to further strengthen the pouch construction.
The horizontal pouches have a pocket on the inside of the flap which can be used to hold
an id card, band-aids or money. All the pouches have a Velcro closure on the flap to keep
them securely closed.
What fabrics are used to make the pouches?
We use a wide variety of fabrics that are soft, yet strong, so that they are comfortable
and durable. Our 100% cottons are great for everyday pouches. The cotton flannel and
jersey fabrics we use for the bedtime pouches are exceptionally soft to prevent any
chafing while sleeping. The Moleskin, Ultrasuede and Microsuede fabrics make our
pouches not only soft and strong, but quite beautiful as well. The twills and denims are
wonderful for withstanding heavy wear and tear. Though our pouches are made to hold
your pump snuggly, there is ample room for the tubing if you like to tuck it inside your
pouch. Details about each fabric are available on the fabric info page.
Who makes the pouches and where are they made?
All the pouches are made by me, Joan, Tynan’s mom. I have been making Tynan pouches
since she got her pump in 2003. I have perfected the styles and feel that the design and
construction are perfect for a comfortable pouch that can be worn 24/7. I work from my
home sewing studio in Western Connecticut.
Why do you use Velcro instead of zippers?
We use Velcro because it is the strongest fastener that is also easy to open. Zippers can
be more difficult for children and it’s easy to get the tubing caught in the teeth which can
result in breakage. The life of a zipper is generally far shorter than Velcro and with proper
care Velcro will last for a long time. We use very high-quality Velcro and always apply it
over the full width or length of the flap closure, so there is little chance that your case will
open accidentally. When you are not wearing your pouch, close the Velcro on both the
pouch and belt.
How long will a pouch last?
It’s hard to say exactly how long a pouch will last as it depends on the wearer’s activity
level. The pouch on a small child who spends her day running, jumping and playing won’t
last as long as the pouch on an adult worn under her clothing. Like all clothing items it
won’t last forever, but having a few pouches to alternate between will help to extend the
life of each. If you’re a child and you do wear the same pouch, 24/7, you can expect it to
look good for about 3 months. If you’re an adult and you’re wearing your pouch 24/7,
you can expect it to look good about 6 months. Around that time you will begin to see
some wear around the corners and edges. My daughter has been wearing the same
pouch for about 9 months and, while it may look a bit ragged, it is still doing a great job
of keeping her pump right where she needs it.
How should I wash and dry my pouch?
We pre-wash and pre-shrink all cotton fabrics in cold water with a mild detergent and
machine dry on a low temperature. We also pre-wash and dry the Moleskin so that the
interfacing bonds better. We do not pre-wash and pre-shrink Ultrasuede and Satin
fabrics. We recommend hand washing all our pouches rather than machine washing and
drying. A short hand washing with a mild detergent, rolling in a towel to extract excess
water and then drying flat, will prolong the life of your pump pouch. If you do choose to
machine wash your cotton pouch, be sure to close the velcro so that it does not catch
on your other clothing.
How long does it take to receive my order and how will it ship?
Since we make our pouches to your measurements and pump specifications, it will take
about two weeks to fill your order. As soon as your order is ready, we will ship it via the
method you choose, either USPS First Class Mail or UPS.
Which type of pouch do children like best?
Children like the horizontal and top close styles best because is allows the tubing to
come out the side of the pouch rather than the top. The narrow profile does not get in
their way when they are playing on the floor or out on the playground.
